Background initiative of Cox’s Bazar Human Resource Development Foundation (CHRDF) “A combined body of ten English Language Clubs” Being located in the southern part of the country, Cox’s Bazar lacks in skilled manpower despite having a lot of tourism potentialities due to its unique elegance. It possesses the dub of world longest unbroken sandy sea beach. Undoubtedly though it has a great potentiality to be further developed yet it lacks skilled human resources requisite for bringing about quality change in the area. There are a lot of opportunities for the locals for their self-development but due to lack of expertness most importantly, language proficiency. We can hardly avail of these opportunities. As we realize in this age of globalization, English is a must to keep pace with the world as well as to get a good job & to enter the modern globalization. But it is a matter of great sorrow that people here in Cox’s Bazar, due to lack of sound environment cannot speak English properly let alone to write and understand the English speaking people. Once we rushed here and there in search for quality institutions with a view to learning English but we got hardly any environment to boost up our language skills. Later we thought, we would generate such an English language institution from which underprivileged students would be benefitted a lot. This willingness persuaded us to greater extend finally leading to establishing ten English language clubs in different parts of the Cox’s Bazar district. Synopsis of Establishing Language Clubs: It was 2005. We are some enthusiastic and diligent persons namely Md. Hannan, Md. Ayub, Saleem Badsha, Sumsul Alam, Hossain Rahman Raiyan, Touhidur Rahman, Muhammad Mohiuddin and Mr Amanat Ullah took an initiative to establish an English Leadership Club (ELC) with cordial support of Mr. Tod from USA in NIT office Cox’s Bazar that later culminated in generating Versatile English Language Club (VELC) in Kalordokan under Cox’s Bazar Municipality. This initiative was taken in hand to provide the students with an institution to expose their latent talent as they did not have any platform and sound environment to exercise their potentiality, though they possessed a lot of quality. From these perception, we decided to provide the underprivileged students with an excellent floor from where they could learn many things especially English Language. It took us a long time to come to present situation. We have encountered a lot of impediments throughout the journey but we never stopped our journey. We were determined and tried to overcome all the hindrance. From the very beginning of our journey a number of enthusiastic persons have always extended their helping hands and shared their ditinguhsed experience in generating such kind of clubs. In this regard, the great contributors are Mr. Ikter Uddin Bayzid, Mr. Amanat Ullah, Abdul Moktader Mamoon, Saleem Badsha, Noman Helali and Sumsul Alam etc. Without their support it may not be
